Silent concert headphones: hear the band as the sound engineer does
Silent concert headphones send the live mix straight to every listener, so bands, choirs and pianists can perform where amplified sound is not an option.

In Hong Kong, some of the most beautiful places for live music are also the quietest: a gallery in a heritage building, a rooftop garden, a hotel terrace, a museum courtyard, a beach in Stanley or on Lantau at sunset. With silent concert headphones the band plays, the mixing desk sends its output to our transmitters, and each listener hears a clean, balanced mix in wireless headphones. The room stays almost silent; the music is intimate and detailed.
Silentsystem has supported this kind of performance in Europe, from the Yamaha Silent Experience, a piano concert on headphones, to silent fashion shows at the Fashion Weeks of Milan, Madrid, Granada and New York. The same equipment is available in Hong Kong for unplugged sets, jazz nights, recitals, theatre and spoken-word performances, brand showcases and silent yoga with live music. Audiences often say they have never heard a live band so clearly: every instrument sits in its place, the vocals are close and there is no boom bouncing off the walls. For artists it is a chance to play intimate sets in places that would normally be off limits, and for venues a new kind of evening that respects the neighbours.
Why choose silent concert headphones
Studio-like sound
Listeners hear the desk mix directly, with clarity that no room acoustics can match.
Unusual venues
Galleries, heritage buildings, rooftops and gardens become possible concert halls.
Personal volume
Each listener sets their own level, comfortable for every age.
Extra channels
A second channel can carry commentary, a translation or a different mix.
Respectful of the area
Neighbours, hotel guests and visitors nearby are not disturbed.
Choice of headphones
The SX-553 Evolution HiFi offers crisp HD sound, ideal for acoustic and classical music.
How a silent concert works
Connect the mixing desk
The sound engineer sends the main mix to the transmitter through XLR or RCA.
Hand out headphones
Audience members collect headphones at the entrance and choose the channel.
Play live
The band performs; the audience listens in the headphones, with the acoustic sound of the stage in the room.
Setting up headphones for a concert
For a concert every listener needs a pair, so count the seats or the capacity. A gallery set for 40 people works with up to 50 headphones; a rooftop concert for 150 needs up to 200.

Tips for a successful silent concert
- Soundcheck with headphones: the engineer should listen on a pair before doors open.
- Acoustic instruments: some unamplified sound in the room adds atmosphere; plan the mix with that in mind.
- Seating: the range of up to 500 metres means listeners can sit anywhere in the venue.
- Second channel: offer commentary for a museum night or a translation for an international audience.
- Volume: hand the headphones out with the volume low and let each listener adjust.
- Outdoor evenings: the cooler months are ideal for rooftop and beach concerts; in summer plan a covered space.

Questions about: silent concerts
Can a live band play with silent headphones?
Yes. The band plays as usual; the sound engineer sends the mix to the transmitters and the audience listens in the headphones.
Is the sound good enough for classical music or jazz?
Yes. The SX-553 Evolution HiFi model offers crisp HD sound designed for detailed listening.
Can we offer translation on a second channel?
Yes. With up to three channels you can run the music, a commentary and a translation at the same time.
How far can listeners be from the transmitter?
Up to 500 metres, depending on the environment, which is more than enough for any venue.
Do you supply the sound engineer?
No. We supply headphones and transmitters; for complex events rental with assistance includes technicians for our equipment, not for the band's sound.
