Silent disco wedding: keep the floor full after the speakers go quiet
A silent disco wedding keeps your guests dancing when the hotel, the village house or the beach venue asks for the music to come down. Everyone picks a channel and the celebration carries on.

Hong Kong weddings rarely have space to spare. The banquet runs to a tight schedule in a hotel ballroom, the garden venue sits below a residential tower, the beach party on Lamma or Cheung Chau shares the sand with village houses, and the villa in Sai Kung has neighbours on both sides. Beautiful settings, but the amplified music often has to stop well before your friends are ready to go home. With a silent disco wedding that moment loses its sting. The music moves into wireless headphones, the floor keeps moving, and the only sounds left in the room are laughter and the odd off-key chorus.
Most couples bring out the headphones after the yam seng toasts and the last banquet course, or straight after the speeches at a Western-style reception. Dinner runs with background music on the venue's system; then the lights dim and three colours start glowing on the floor. Your DJ, or the playlist you have put together, plugs into our transmitters, and we look after the equipment: cleaned, sanitised, charged and delivered from our New Territories warehouse one or two days before the wedding. Celebrating in Sai Kung, Discovery Bay or on an outlying island? Tell us when you ask for a quote and we will plan the delivery with you.
Why couples choose a silent disco wedding
Beyond the music limit
When the venue's speakers have to go quiet, the music carries on in the headphones. Hotel guests upstairs and the flats next door sleep undisturbed.
Three channels, every generation
Cantopop classics for the uncles and aunties, K-pop and current hits for your friends, house for whoever is still dancing at 1am. The LED colour shows who is on which channel.
Tables where you can talk
Relatives who would rather catch up stay seated and chat without shouting over the bass. Grandma is spared a speaker stack beside her chair.
Photos with a glow
Rows of lit-up headphones against the harbour lights or a Sai Kung sunset give your photographer shots no other album has.
Gentle on the venue
Heritage buildings, garden terraces and beach marquees do not need stacks of speakers or heavy cabling across the floor.
There before the big day
Charged headphones, transmitters, chargers and spares arrive one or two days ahead with instructions, leaving time for a relaxed test run.
Your silent wedding in three moments
Reserve the kit with the date
Estimate how many guests will dance and ask for a quote as soon as the venue is confirmed. The cooler months from October to April are the busiest wedding season, so an early booking keeps things calm.
Brief your DJ
Whoever runs the music connects the mixer, laptop or phone to the transmitters with XLR or RCA cables. A short check before the reception starts and everything is ready.
Open the headphone table
Set a table beside the dance floor, ask two friends or your bridesmaids to hand out headphones and explain the colours, and within minutes the floor is full.
How many headphones for a wedding?
Not every guest needs a pair. After dinner some people dance, some stay at the tables and some step out to the terrace. For a wedding of 120 guests, a kit of 100 headphones usually covers the floor with room to spare; for an intimate celebration of 60, around 50 is plenty. Large Chinese banquets of 300 guests or more often dance in waves, so 150–200 headphones tend to be enough.
- Channels: two let you alternate styles; the third is handy for a second DJ or a channel reserved for slow dances.
- Transmitters: the TX-350 handles multi-channel set-ups in a ballroom; the TX-330, with its built-in battery, runs a dance floor on a beach or a lawn far from the nearest socket.
- Indicative prices: up to 50 headphones HK$2,200–3,500, up to 100 HK$4,000–6,200, up to 200 HK$7,500–8,800. Delivery within Hong Kong is quoted separately.
- Booking: send the date, the venue and the guest count through the custom quote form; a consultant calls you within 24 hours.
Every cost item is explained on the silent disco prices page.
Silent disco wedding tips for a floor that stays full
A few small touches turn a good idea into a dance floor that holds until the last song.
- Tease it early: a line on the invitation or the wedding website gets guests curious before they arrive.
- Headphone station: a table near the floor with a small board matching each colour to its music. Among family and friends most couples simply trust their guests; no ID needed.
- Volume: hand the headphones out turned down and let people raise the dial gradually.
- First dance: play it on the speakers, then switch. The moment the room goes quiet while the floor keeps dancing always gets a reaction.
- Check the venue's timings: ask the hotel or the venue when amplified music must end and plan the switch to headphones for that moment.
- Beach and island weddings: keep the transmitters away from sand and spray, store the spares in the shade and remember that the headphones run up to 10 hours on their own battery.
- Weather: outdoor dates in summer can meet rain or typhoon warnings; if the weather turns, talk to us about the date as early as you can.
- Last song: a basket at the exit or beside the coach back to town helps you collect every headphone before guests leave.

Questions about: weddings
How much does a silent disco wedding cost?
It depends on the number of headphones. As an indicative guide, up to 100 headphones cost HK$4,000–6,200 and up to 200 cost HK$7,500–8,800 for a single event. The cost per guest drops as the numbers grow, and delivery within Hong Kong is quoted on top.
Do you supply the DJ?
No. We rent headphones and transmitters; we do not organise events or provide DJs. Connect the DJ you have already booked, or a playlist on a laptop or phone.
Can anyone in the room hear the music?
With the speakers off, the room only hears a faint whisper from the headphones. That is exactly why the party can carry on when the venue asks for quiet.
Will older guests cope with the headphones?
Easily. They are worn like ordinary headphones, the volume is a simple dial and one button changes the channel. The LED colour shows at once which music they are tuned to.
Can you deliver to an outlying island or a village house?
We deliver anywhere in Hong Kong, and outlying islands on request. The kit arrives one or two days before the wedding; tell us the exact location when you ask for a quote so the delivery can be planned and priced.
