Silent party: how to plan a headphone party in Hong Kong
A silent party is a celebration where the music plays only in wireless headphones: three channels, glowing LEDs and a full dance floor that disturbs nobody.

A silent party, also called a silent disco or headphone party, looks odd from the outside: a crowd dancing and singing in near silence. Put on a pair of headphones and everything changes. The music is loud and clear, the bass is full, and you can switch between up to three DJs or playlists with a button. The LED on each headphone takes the colour of its channel, so you can see at a glance who is dancing to what.
In a city as dense as Hong Kong, the format solves a real problem. It works for birthdays and weddings, annual dinners and spring dinners, Christmas parties, university O-camps and graduation nights, rooftop bars, junk-boat parties around the islands, mall events and harbourfront festivals. Wherever music has to stay quiet or end early, from residential rooftops to hotel ballrooms with a function next door, a silent party keeps the dance floor going. This guide explains how it works, how many headphones you need, what it costs and how to make it a success. Want the technical background first? Read what a silent disco is.
Why throw a silent party
Loud inside, quiet outside
Guests enjoy full volume in their headphones while the building next door hears almost nothing.
Up to three channels
Three DJs or playlists at once, so everyone finds their sound without an argument.
Your own volume
Each guest sets their own level, making the party comfortable for every age.
More social, not less
Lower the headphones to chat normally, then dive straight back into the music.
A light show on the floor
Colour-changing headphones turn any dance floor into a moving display of light.
Indoors, outdoors, on the water
Rooftops, beaches and junk boats work as well as ballrooms, thanks to a battery-powered transmitter.
How a silent party works, step by step
The music goes in
A DJ, a laptop or a phone connects to the transmitter, one per channel, through XLR or RCA.
The signal goes out
The transmitter sends the music by radio to every headphone within range, up to 500 metres, without any delay.
Guests choose
Each guest picks a channel and sets the volume, and the LED takes on the colour of that channel.
Silent party: how many headphones and what it costs
Count the guests who will dance at the busiest moment. For a birthday with 40 people, 30–40 headphones are usually enough; for a wedding of 120, about 100; for an annual dinner of 400, around 250–300.
- Up to 50 headphones: HK$2,200–3,500 (house party, junk-boat party, small wedding)
- Up to 100 headphones: HK$4,000–6,200 (wedding, Christmas party)
- Up to 200 headphones: HK$7,500–8,800 (annual dinner, bar, big party)
- Up to 500 headphones: HK$15,000–17,600 (O-camp, festival, mall event)
- Up to 1,000 headphones: HK$25,500–35,000 (large public event)
Prices are indicative for a single event; delivery within Hong Kong is quoted separately and a refundable deposit applies. The details are on the silent disco prices page.
Ten tips for an unforgettable silent party
- Theme each channel: Cantopop classics, K-pop and current hits, house; or one channel per DJ.
- Signpost the colours: a board by the dance floor tells guests what each colour plays.
- Start low: hand out headphones with the volume down and let guests turn it up.
- Plan the handout: one or two people at a table make distribution quick.
- Dim the lights: the LEDs look their best in a darker space.
- Stage a battle: two DJs, two colours, and the crowd decides.
- Cue a singalong: a whole room belting out the same chorus with no music audible is unforgettable.
- On a junk boat: the TX-330 runs on its own battery; keep the kit away from spray and agree the route with the boat operator.
- Think about returns: a basket or box at the exit brings every headphone back.
- Book early: December, the spring dinner season and the cooler weekends from October to April fill up fast. Request a quote as soon as you have a date.

Questions about: silent party
What is the difference between a silent party and a silent disco?
None, really: they are two names for the same format. Silent party, silent disco and headphone party all mean music played through wireless headphones instead of speakers.
Do I need Wi-Fi, mobile data or an app?
No. The headphones receive a radio signal from the transmitter. No internet, no app and no pairing needed.
How long do the batteries last?
Up to 10 hours on a full charge, more than a whole party. A full charge takes about 4 hours, and the kit arrives charged.
Are the headphones hygienic?
Yes. Every headphone is cleaned and sanitised before each rental and checked for quality.
